  • Notes
    • According to the 1900 census, Peter immigrated to the United States in 1857. It has been said that he entered the United States in New Orleans, Louisiana and made his way up the Mississippi River to Minnesota, settling in Freeburg, Minnesota.

In 1860 he is listed on the census living with Peter Palen as a farm laborer. On the 1865 state census of Minnesota, Peter was living in the township of Crooked Creek (Freeburg), Houston County, Minnesota with his family.

Peter and Ann Gengler appear on the 1870 census in Crooked Creek, Houston, Minnesota with their three children. The 1875 state census of Minnesota shows Peter Gengler, birthplace Luxembourg, age 45; Anna Marie Gengler, birthplace Luxembourg, age 43; Joseph (John) Peter Gengler, birthplace Minnesota, age 11; Michael, birthplace Minnesota, age 13; Catherine, birthplace Minnesota, age 9; Stophel Gengler, birthplace Luxembourg, age 43, as residing with them.

In the early 1890s, Peter, his wife, children and their children moved to Oregon City, Oregon. They all returned to Kansas in 1895 with the exception of Michael, whose whereabouts are unknown. Some say he died in a logging accident and some say he just disappeared. Neither has been verified.
